Old diesel engines leak oil. It is kind of the nature of the beast. Most of the leaks come from seals and gaskets that have aged and are no longer doing their job. The seals and gaskets dry out or harden with age and allow the fluid to leak by. Only cure is to replace the offending seal or gasket.

The following is a list of the most common leaks.
- Valve cover
- Front crank seal
- Oil filter housing gasket
- Oil cooler hoses
- Vacuum pump housing gasket

- Valve stem seals*
*In regards to the last two on the list, you may not see the oil leaking onto the ground but the oil may be disappearing. If you are burning excess oil due to high piston and cylinder wall wear there is no fix short of overhauling your engine.
