When changing the front crank seal on your older 6 cylinder Mercedes you may or may not need to replace the sealing race that goes on over the front of the crankshaft. The race on these engines is wide enough that if in good condition it can be pulled off and turned around and reinstalled to be used again. The race can be inspected once the old seal is removed.
