This is a very common failure item on the OM617 turbo diesel engines. There are two reasons why it bends or strips. 1) The original threaded adjusting rod is made of a VERY soft metal. 2) Owners or mechanics do not loosen the three large mounting bolts BEFORE adjusting the tension on the V-belts. Kent designed this improvement and now makes it in our own shop with a much stronger threaded rod.

Here is a comparison of our bolt (upper) and the genuine. Genuine bolts are hard to find and can be very expensive ( approximately $70). Even if you purchase a new OEM, you may have problems down the road. We include a new nut and wave washer with your bolt.

This is brand new, complete with the adjusting nut. When these get bent and deformed, and the threaded rod gets damaged, it is almost impossible to adjust the belt tension properly on the alternator. These are getting harder to find. If you have an OM617 turbo, take a close look at yours.
