How to tell if you have an early or late 73=22.9

Summary of Kit Contents:

  • Newer style deeper pan
  • A new rubber pan gasket
  • Genuine Mercedes Triple - Smart media filter 
  • Two new pan magnets
  • New GREEN fill plug 
  • Six new aluminum stretch bolts 
  • Fittings and valves to attach to the bottom of the transmission to fill with new fluid
  • Hand pump pressure tank needed to fill 722.9  from underneath
  • Hoses and orings to do a power. May not be easily doable on some 4-matics
  • Detailed video instructions

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Other than standard tools, you will need a small torque wrench and a way to check the temperature of your transmission during the filling process. If you have an advanced scanner like the Ucanic, that will show the temp. If not you can use an infrared thermometer like the one shown in the related products below.

Infrared Thermometer to Use When Checking Fluid Level in a 722.9 transmission

On the 7-speed transmissions from 2003 to 2016 transmission fluid level has be checked from under the car, with the engine running and the correct temperature reached.

Since there are no dipsticks on these transmissions, the DIY way to check fluid level is from under the car with a touch-free thermometer to measure the heat of the transmission fluid BEFORE setting the correct level. Instructions are included with my full 722.9 transmission fill kit.
