Late OM616 OM617 Power Steering Pump Leak Front and Rear Reseal Kit

Now for both ZF and Sperry pumps. Fits later W123 4 and 5-cylinder diesels and W126 300SD. Some 380SL.

For later 240D 300D 300CD 300TD 300SD Models.  All the parts in this kit are the same for both pumps, except the rear seal. Rather than offer two different kits, we are going to include the seals for both pumps. This will prevent you from ordering the wrong one by mistake and reduce our hassle of having two separate products. The unused seal can be tossed or saved. You have asked for it, and we have delivered it again. Now that all those old power steering pumps are leaking out the front seal, we have come up with a kit that will allow you to replace the front seal of your pump at home without any special tools other than what is provided here.  We now include the rear o-ring seal for BOTH pumps and instructions on how to replace it. It does not leak as often as the front seal, but if you are removing your pump, it is best to replace this seal BEFORE it starts leaking.

Replacing Rear O-ring Seal in Older ZF Power Steering Pump

Product Details

Watch this video before ordering

Kit contains the following:

  • SMALL Front seal to fit ZF and Sperry pumps
  • REAR o-ring seal for ZF pumps
  • REAR o-ring seal for Sperry Pumps ( larger of the two we send)
  • Special front seal removal tool by Kent Bergsma
  • Small amount of sealant for the outside edge of the seal
  • Special polishing paper for the output shaft
  • New power steering filter
  • PDF Complete illustrated 5-page step-by-step instructions for the front seal
  • Kent's video instructions for replacing the rear seal

The detailed instructions will explain how to remove the pump, take it apart, install the new seal, replace the rear seal using an 8-inch C-clamp, replace the pump, flush the system, and install the new filter. Yes, that's right! We even include a brand-new filter for your convenience.

You will need an eight-inch C-clamp to replace the rear seal. If you do not have one you can purchase it separately below.

Here is what the ZF pump looks like that uses the small seaL. It has a ZF blue part tag on it.

WARNING: Not all ZF pumps are created equal. We have had reports that a pump on an 85 123 diesel was slightly bigger. So we can not guarantee that this rear 0-ring will fit “ALL”, but it has fit every one Kent has worked on here in our shop. Check the measurement of the rear plug below.

This is what the Sperry pump looks like ( note the tag is different).

The Sperry pump looks different on the back side. The cover plate is smooth and slightly larger in diameter. The same procedure using the large C-clamp is used to remove the rear cover to replace the back seal.

Trying to get the seal out like this is NOT the way to go. You can damage the housing. The kit includes a custom tool to remove the old seal without damaging the pump.

GAS ENGINE PUMPS of the 1980s.: This kit will also work on SOME gas engine ZF pumps. Please email us before ordering so we can verify the application.
