Rusty, pitted metal can be pretty ugly, even if you paint over it. If you try to fill it with regular Bondo, that will not work long-term. Small rust holes in non-structural metal don't need new metal welded in ( many times, those "professional" welds will come back rusty to haunt you in five years).
